ITAP – Production & Outcomes, Influences & Reactions

Interpretation

The define line between two different artist’s interpretations of the same piece of work allows for an interesting insight into their working process. My first example is of the 1986 film The Hitcher directed by Robert Harmon, a horror/thriller but has this chilled dark euphoria about it and messes with your head once watched and leaves you thinking.  A young man who escaped the clutches of a murderous hitch-hiker is subsequently stalked and framed for the hitchers crimes, starring Rutger Hauer as the hitcher.

Compared to the remake in 2007 directed by Dave Mayers the plot is pretty much the same but modernized to keep the film fresh and up to date unlike the Texas chainsaw massacre where the remake kept that 70's authenticity. This time the woman is the heroin and the hitcher is played by Sean Bean.
